At English Martyrs’ Catholic Primary School, we passionately believe that the right education begins in the Early Years. That is why we offer a safe, caring and educational setting for your child to grow and learn.
Our fantastic curriculum engages children in a diverse range of topics and develop a love of learning, which will follow them throughout their whole time at our wonderful school. Our nursery provides places for children aged from 3 years. To arrange a visit please contact us
Phonics
Throughout the year, your child will participate in Phonics. The current scheme we use at the beginning of the year is ‘Letters and Sounds’. This promotes speaking and listening skills, phonological awareness and oral blending. Towards the latter part of the year we introduce our school Phonics scheme: Sounds-Write.
Literacy
Within our school we have our ‘Fabulous Five’ range of books. These change each half term and offer children further insight and learning into our topics and more. We also have a set text which is the focus of our learning in Literacy. The children will also begin Nursery with developing their mark making. This will progress throughout the year, with the aim of most children being able to write their full name by the end of their time at Nursery.
Maths
Our Maths curriculum falls in line with current ‘Development Matters’ documentation and allows for children to build their understanding of number and numerical patterns.
Topic
Each half term, we alternate between History and Geography. Our topics in Nursery are as follows: Autumn 1 – All About Me, Autumn 2 – Down at the Farm, Spring 1 – Nursery Rhymes, Spring 2 – In My Garden, Summer 1 – Transport, Summer 2- Water.
RE
Throughout the whole school, we follow the ‘Come and See’ scheme. This offers the children insight into Christianity and develops their understanding of Jesus and the teachings of the Bible.
Our curriculum offers a range of learning to all children and we ensure that alongside fantastic indoor and outdoor provision, children’s learning is well developed and supported throughout their time in Nursery.
